Project Conifer
If you read my last post, you may have noticed that I have a slight issue with the fences in the garden (!)
Fear not – Stage One (Project Conifer) has now been implemented!
Because Kendal is the Place Where Rain Never Stops, this took a couple weeks in total because the top foot of soil is like a clay bog. The tarp is where theres still a load of earth (where the hell do I put all this bloody earth??) so I was trying to keep it dry. This afternoon I dug more out and stationed a compost bin there, but it looks a bit pissed so no photos until I have dug it into the slope better. Plus, it’s dark.
So, planting the beggars – nice big holes, loosened the soil and mixed in homemade compost, teased the rootballs out, plopped them in and refilled with a compost/earth mix. Finally, watered in a little chicken poop fertiliser. I’ll Miracle Gro them in the Spring I expect.
It’s been a really tough 6 weeks or so here, and this project came along right at the hardest bit. However, I credit the physical work with the earth as probably the only thing that dragged me out of a real funk. It can be really good sometimes to just switch your brain off, and Just Fucking Dig.
Next Project: Project Use a Shed to Reunite Me With My Dishwasher. A shed is coming at the weekend. Once it is built, I can move the contents of the outhouse into it. I then bring the dishwasher into the house, swapping it with the washing machine and goading my father into running plumbing into the outhouse; creating a laundry room.
