What Energy Healing Is (And What It’s Really Like to Have a Session)
Energy healing can sound mysterious if you’ve never tried it before. Maybe you’ve heard of Reiki, maybe you’ve read about chakras or crystals, but you’re not quite sure what actually happens in a session — or what you might feel.
This post is a behind-the-scenes look at how I approach energy healing, and what you can expect if you come for a session with me.
My Journey With Reiki and Energy Work
I began training in Reiki back in 2009 and became a Reiki Master in 2012. Over the past 13 years I’ve offered treatments and attunements for others, and Reiki is still a foundation in how I work.
But over time, my practice has evolved. It’s now a blend of Reiki, crystal healing, intuitive energy work, and what I’d call Earth energy — drawing from the land I live on, which is also my ancestral land. Belonging and place are woven deeply into my practice.
What You Might Experience in a Session
Every session is different, but here are some common things people notice:
- Deep relaxation — many people feel blissed out or even fall asleep during the session.
- A sense of calm and spaciousness — your nervous system downshifts, and you leave feeling softer.
- Light-headed or drowsy afterwards — perfectly normal, which is why I always give space to ground and recalibrate before you leave.
I work intuitively, following what I sense is needed in the moment rather than a set “routine.” Crystals are often part of that work, as are grounding practices to help you feel safe and protected after we’ve moved energy.
Beyond “Love and Light”
One thing I want to be clear about: energy healing isn’t all sparkles and instant bliss.
There’s a lot of “spiritual bypassing” in the wellness world right now — pretending everything is light without acknowledging the shadow, the grief, the hard work of being human. That’s not how I work.
Sometimes energy healing brings up old emotions, endings, or transitions you’re moving through. Stuff gets shifted and recalibrated. You might leave feeling lighter — or a little unsettled while things integrate. Both are valid.
Aftercare Matters
Energy healing doesn’t end when you step out of the session. Your body and energy field need time to integrate.
I recommend giving yourself space afterwards:
- Rest instead of rushing back to work or socialising.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Journal or sit quietly if anything arises.
Think of it as giving your body and soul the conditions they need to absorb what’s shifted.
Is Energy Healing for You?
People come to me when they’re going through real transitions — grief, identity shifts, endings, or just that sense of being “stuck.”
If you’re curious about energy healing, know that it’s not about escaping life but about meeting it more fully. It offers a way to reconnect with yourself, feel held, and find steadiness in uncertain times.
